The beauty of Iridology is that it provides us with analytical or diagnostic clarity on many levels. It helps the practitioner to pinpoint the foundation or cause to a problem or identify the contributing pathways to a particular symptom or collection of symptoms. For example, migraines can be triggered via many different causes, such as erratic blood sugar levels, low progesterone levels, liver congestion, chronic sinusitis, certain food allergies initiated via the intestinal immune system or even neuromuscular tension connected to the cervical vertebrae – this could prove to be an overwhelming list of symptoms for the patient and the practitioner! Yet a professionally trained iridologist will be able to differentiate between all these causes and focus on the root cause of the problem, through microscopic analysis of the iris, pupil and inner pupillary border. With any approach in natural health it is essential to identify the foundation to a condition and not just try to address the symptoms, which are, after all, the tip of the iceberg for what is the true nature with most degenerative diseases and chronic conditions. What many practitioners appreciate about Iridology is its versatility and flexibility, plus the fact that it [...]

It helps the practitioner to pinpoint the foundation
or cause to a problem or identify the contributing pathways to a particular
symptom or collection of symptoms. For example, migraines can be
triggered via many different causes, such as erratic blood sugar levels,
low progesterone levels, liver congestion, chronic sinusitis, certain food
allergies initiated via the intestinal immune system or even neuromuscular
tension connected to the cervical vertebrae – this could prove to be an
overwhelming list of symptoms for the patient and the practitioner! Yet a
professionally trained iridologist will be able to differentiate between all
these causes and focus on the root cause of the problem, through
microscopic analysis of the iris, pupil and inner pupillary border.

With any approach in natural health it is essential to identify the
foundation to a condition and not just try to address the symptoms, which
are, after all, the tip of the iceberg for what is the true nature with most
degenerative diseases and chronic conditions.

What many practitioners appreciate about Iridology is its versatility and
flexibility, plus the fact that it can be integrated to just about every
treatment approach we have. Around the world Iridology is applied in the
natural health, chiropractic, GP or specialist’s clinic to clarify the
underlying cause of a problem. Iridology is utilised successfully by
naturopaths, homeopaths, medical herbalists, nutritionists, reflexologists,
colonic therapists, massage therapists, osteopaths, Kinesiologists, medics,
pharmacists and many more.

Iridology Research

Iridology has a basis of official scientific and medical research in such
countries as South Korea, Russia, Romania, Belarus, Latvia & the Ukraine
for many decades. Many research and results have been sponsored and
accepted officially by health departments and hospitals in these countries.

In more recent times Iridology research has increased at a dramatic pace,
although these endeavours have not been officially sponsored. Many
worthwhile research initiatives have expanded our knowledge or answered
contentious questions in iridology. Research has taken place in Greece,
Italy, Spain, Portugal, Cuba, Brazil & England with John Andrews. Much of
this research is ongoing and can be accessed through the
www.johnandrewsiridology.net website.

Iridology Training

Training in Iridology is to a very high and extensive standard. John
Andrews trains practitioners at every level in Iridology, so they can learn
to integrate with confidence this exciting tool. There are some pre-
requisites with professional Iridology Training, but most people reading
Today’s Therapist will already have attained these.

For a copy of the latest Prospectus & further information on CD please
email or request the CD through the website. The next Holistic Iridology
Course begins in September 2006.

Many patients come with a specific
long-standing condition, such as with arthritis, constipation or eczema.
What we cannot assess through Iridology

For various reasons iridology is not a panacea and the following cannot be
detected through analysis of the iris, pupil or inner pupillary border:

· Bacterial infections
· Fungal infections, including Candida albicans
· Psoriasis
· Parasites
· Gallstones
· Kidney stones
· Pregnancy
· Length of life
· Loss of organ via surgery (Russian research revealed that the
general anaesthetic short -circuits the nervous system in such cases)
· Some types of tumour
· Leukaemia
· Rare genetic conditions (due to lack of experience & research)

Iridology Contra-indications

Some general factors and specific, localised phenomena of the eye can make an Iridology examination difficult or, in rare cases, impossible.

These include:

· Aniridia
· Some cases of blindness
· White Pupil Syndrome
· Certain cases of trauma to the iris or
· Iridectomy
· Severe Iridodonesis
· Iridodialysis
· Iridotomy
· Coloboma in some cases

In Iridology structural markings in the iris and eye colours (pigments) carry both personal and genetic significance. The colour of the iris illustrates certain genetic and constitutional traits. Some signs are important for what they look like, some markers are important for where they are – the iris can be a projection of a map of the body and its various systems, as in Reflexology or Auricolotherapy.

The reactivity and diameter of the pupil is very important in iridology. It is
rare to see a completely circular pupil, where deviations take place this
can relate to previous spinal and neuromuscular injury or tension – this is
a very important assessment tool for those working with the spine and the
musculoskeletal system. Also if the diameter of the pupil is enlarged and
unreactive in adults this could relate to adrenal gland fatigue as the result
of chronic stress.

The iris can be divided into different sections relating to the lymphatic
system, mesenchyme, gastrointestinal system, skin, liver functions, kidneys,
spleen, cardiac risks, immune function and endocrine functions to name a
few. We can also look at how many of these systems interact through the
application of emotional dynamics and the psychoneuroimmunology.

In some countries where Iridology is applied medically it is referred to as
Irisdiagnosis.

The totality moving within itself creates a dynamic balance that is eternal continum of the life.

For the Ayurveda the characteristics characteristic of each person reveal their constitutional psychophysiological type (prakriti), that is to say, that includes as much mind as body; thus, when discovering the basic nature of our body-mind, we have taken the first step towards the perfect health which is to be understood to we ourself; when we include/understand what this happening in our interior no longer we let ourselves influence reason why the society believes that we would have to say, to do, to think or to feel.

The Ayurveda says that the point where the mind and the body are, the thought is transformed into matter; in that point are the three governing principles called doshas, people in charge of all the physical and mental activities of the body; a coordinated operation and the three balance of doshas sustains to the life and aid to maintain the health, its imbalance causes the decay in the body and the upheavals of the personality.

The three doshas are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha that are formed by their respective elements; Vata derives from the ether and the air, Pitta of the fire and water and Kapha of the Earth and the water. Although doshas regulates thousands of different functions in the system mind-body, fulfill three basic functions:

· Vata is responsible for the movement.

· Pitta is responsible for the digestion and metabolism.

· Kapha is responsible for the structure.

PHYSICAL TYPES OF THE AYURVEDA

Types of dosha simple

VATA PITTA KAPHA

If dosha is much more high that the others, you are a simple type of dosha. The most representative puntaje is that in which dosha primary has the double of points that the following (for example Vata = 90, Pitta =45, Kapha = 35), but the margins but also reduced count. A true simple type of dosha presents/displays the characteristics of Vata, Pitta or Kapha of very prominent way. Dosha following will even have certain influence in its natural tendencies, but in a much smaller degree.

Two types of doshas

Vata – Pitta or Pitta – Vata

Pitta – Kapha or Kapha – Pitta

Kapha – Vata or Vata – Kapha

If there is no dosha that predominates, you are a two type of doshas. This means that you show main your two qualities of doshas, or together or of alternate way. Upper it predominates in his psicofisiológico type, but both count.

Most important he is not catalogued to be but, learning something about one same one. If we include/understand the system of the Ayurveda, and the unique type of our body, we can improve our health.

The health is the base to be able to fulfill this goal.
The Ayurveda helps the healthy person to conserve the health and to the patient to obtain it.

Basic characteristics
It is the first holistic system that Integra the body, the mind and the spirit.
It is verified by the experience throughout 5000 years.
Their principles are universally applicable to the daily existence of each individual.
He is able to deal with the cause the disease instead of taking care of the symptoms merely.
It is centered in the integral treatment of the patient
Multitude of therapeutic resources uses, usually neglected, of the own person.
Therapeutic the specific one is made fundamentally with remedies of natural origin.
It is oriented to obtain the rejuvenation and to restore the corporal balance
It purifies accumulated toxins through the techniques of Panchakarma

Main postulates
An equivalence between the universe or the macrocosms exists and the person or microcosm.
All positive or negative experience at corporal level vice versa has its effect on the mind and.
As well as the truth is infinite and only each person, the possible treatments are infinite and specific for each one of us.
The best medicine is the one than it cures to the patient.
All food is remedy and each remedy is food.
Traditionally, eight specialties exist: general medicine, paediatric and obstetrics, surgery, ophtalmology and Otolaryngology, toxicological, virilisation and rejuvenation and psychology.
Their philosophical bases are governed by the Theory of the five elements (ether, air, fire, water and earth), of the Tridosha (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) or of the three corporal types, the seven dhatus or weaves, three bad or products of excretion, and the Trinidad of the life conformed by body, mind and spirit.
The ayurveda pharmacopoeia includes more than 5000 different formulations which have been developed throughout millenia. One has verified his effectiveness, tolerance and security in the laboratory of the life. The World-wide Organization of the Health has showed in international declarations that the traditional ayurvedics remedies, for this reason, do not require to be put under clinical studies and of laboratory to be approved like medicines.

The Ayurveda includes subjects that are not boarded habitually by the allopathic medicine, such as systematically to take into account the diet and the style from life, being based on the psychophysical biotipos. It recognizes that the last cause of all the diseases is in violating the laws of the nature. The central elements for the treatment and the prevention of diseases are based on promoting the mental balance and reducing stress.

We ourself we recognize that our health cannot be separated of which we eat, which we do and what we thought. The Ayurveda provides a system to understand the set to us of energies and qualities in movement by our daily practices of life, thus we can use them to prevent or to prevent the imbalances that cause disease.

The Ayurveda puts emphasis in the search or the maintenance of a healthful life through recommendations of a daily regime, an austere conduct, dietetic regulations, seasonal changes, instructions related to the dream and the sexuality and other similar subjects of the life of every day. Of this form one is in harmonic form with the cosmic rates of the nature.

In East, the key for the understanding is the acceptance, the observation and the experience, whereas in the West it is centered in the questioning, the analysis and the logical deduction. This way different to approach the things requires a new way to think on the part of the people who begin to study the Ayurveda.

The Ayurveda, according to the constitution of each person, offers an integral plan to maintain and/or to restore the balance mind-body on the basis of the feeding, the physical activity, the daily routines, the mental harmony and the spiritual development, adding the support of medicinal grass and techniques of chemical decontamination and rejuvenation.
Dr Jorge Luis Berra
Director of the Course of Postgraduate de Medicine Ayurveda
